Mission Statement

The mission of the Toronto School of Osteopathy is to inspire and educate future generations of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners by embracing and preserving the core traditions and principles of Osteopathy. Guided by the visionary philosophy of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, we honor his foundational insights into the unity of mind, body, and spirit or as he many times said mind, matter, and motion. Grounded in nature’s principles and the profession’s rich heritage, we are committed to cultivating practitioners who embody holistic healing and uphold the timeless values of Osteopathy in service to humanity and community locally and globally.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy is a holistic approach to healthcare founded by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. Dr. Still was a pioneering physician who believed that the body has an incredible capacity to heal itself when its structure and function are in balance. He developed osteopathy as a way to support the body’s natural healing processes by addressing the relationships between the bones, muscles, joints, and overall health.

Central to Dr. Still’s philosophy was the idea that the human body is a self-regulating system with the ability to repair and maintain itself. He emphasized the importance of the musculoskeletal system in influencing overall health and developed manual techniques to restore alignment, improve circulation, and relieve tension. By optimizing the body’s structure, osteopathy helps remove barriers to healing, allowing the body to function at its best.

The Toronto School of Osteopathy adheres to these foundational principles laid out by Dr. Still in all of its teachings, ensuring that future osteopaths are equipped to carry forward his legacy of holistic, patient-centered care.

WHAT DO OSTEOPATHS DO?

Osteopaths in Canada are healthcare professionals who focus on diagnosing and treating conditions by addressing the body’s structure and function. They use a holistic approach to health, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and other body systems. Osteopathic treatment often involves hands-on techniques such as joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, and gentle manipulations to improve mobility, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural healing processes. Many osteopaths also provide guidance on posture, exercise, and lifestyle to help patients achieve long-term wellness. Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic pain, recovering from injury, or looking to enhance your overall health, osteopaths offer personalized care tailored to your needs.
